John Pethel

The childrens fair started promptly at 0900 - and by 0905, there were hundreds of crazed children running around the hospital and its grounds on a mission. Get and grab mission. US Marines were in place to provide security and an older SGT said the event unfolded like the fall of Saigon.

He joked that children were running around - running into one another trying to figure out where the games/clothing/toys were being distributed. My vision of gently handing out beanie babies was smashed as children were storming Mary Jo Burleigh and her helpers. She looked like a tornado ripped through her guts, but I think once you understand that patience and sharing doesn't apply here, then you can step back and enjoy the chaos.

Needless to say, I didn't get any cute pictures of happy children with new beanie babies - those little vampires grabbed the loot and hauled ass making sure other little vampires didn't snatch their new found items away from them. Have you ever watched a flock of seagulls

fight for a cracker or piece of bread. Just like that. What I did manage to take pictures of I'm sending to you. Still happy children - but not any with your beanie babies. Overall I think this was a success, but the 4 tons of clothing/games/toys went in 15 minutes.

Hope you both have a great day and weekend!
John
